Meet the Inventive Filmmakers Behind Beasts of the Southern Wild.
I really loved the aesthetic of this film, and the performances were marvelous. It was technically beautifully executed as well. I also think, however, that story-wise the filmmakers maybe tried to accomplish too much. Thematically I just felt there was too much for me to absorb comfortably in one sitting and I felt, at a certain point, that I have been out of college much too long to be able to see all of the purposeful and non-purposeful symbolism and metaphors presented.
Basically, I just don’t think I came away with any core revelations about the characters or the story or the themes, beyond just loving them as individuals and my heart breaking for them based on how their lives are presented and the hardships that they face.
I don’t know if that is good or bad, but the movie is definitely a must see.
